I've learnt new skills

Siblings tell us that there are lots of great things about growing up with a disabled brother or sister. They can learn things like sign language or first aid and feel proud of their new skills. Many of these skills will be really useful in life when you’re older.

Some things you can do to celebrate the good things

1

Make a list of all the things you have learnt to do as a sibling that other people your age don’t know about.

2

Write to YoungSibs telling us about something you have learned to do because you have a disabled brother or sister.

3

Tell the other siblings on YoungSibs Chat some of the skills you’ve learned because you are a sibling.

4

Give a talk to your class or in assembly about the skills you have learnt through supporting your brother or sister.

I went on a first aid course so that I know what to do if my brother has a seizure. It makes me feel better that I know how to help him.
